When One Sport Just Isn't Enough.
Large courts between 2,000 and 3,000 sq ft are built for families who want serious multi-sport space, room to really skate in winter, and a backyard that becomes the centre of the neighbourhood.
Serious Space for Serious Play
At 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft, large courts are where things get genuinely exciting. This size range opens up a small full-court basketball setup, comfortable inline and ball hockey, and the full range of backyard sports — pickleball, volleyball, and badminton — all on one well-designed surface.
It’s also an outstanding size for a winter skating rink. Large courts give you real skating room, not just enough ice to shuffle in a circle. Whether you freeze it naturally or add a refrigeration system, this is the size that turns a backyard rink into an actual skating experience.
One thing worth knowing: large courts aren’t quite big enough for regulation tennis. If tennis is the priority, a Full Size Court is where you’ll want to land. But for everything else? A large court has you covered.
Typical size range: 2,000–3,000 sq ft Typical budget range: $65,000–$100,000+
Budget includes the concrete base and may vary based on location, complexity, and accessories chosen. Does not include an ice refrigeration system.
Large Courts Work Best When...
- You want a small full-court basketball setup, not just a half-court
- Multiple sports matter equally and you don’t want to compromise on any of them
- Inline or ball hockey is on the list alongside pickleball, basketball, and volleyball
- A proper backyard skating rink with real skating room is part of the plan
- You have the property to do it right and you want a court that makes a statement
- Your family entertains, and you want a space that can host games and gatherings
If you’re primarily focused on one or two sports and a medium-sized property, a Medium Court is likely the better fit.
If regulation basketball or tennis is the goal, you’ll want to look at Full Size Courts.
Summer Court. Winter Skate. All Year Long.
Medium courts are great for a backyard rink. Large courts are where it becomes a proper skating experience.
At 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft, you have enough room to actually skate — not just take a few strides before hitting the boards. Families with younger kids love having space to chase each other around. Older kids and adults can get a real workout in. If you’re a hockey family, this is the size where you can set up a net and actually practise.
Natural freezing works well in most Canadian winters and costs nothing beyond the water. Add a refrigeration system and you’re skating reliably from December through March, regardless of the temperature.
Ice refrigeration systems are available as a separate project and are not included in the court budget range.

- Custom logos and colour schemes

Surface Options
Choose Your Surface
Large courts are available with two premium surface systems. At this size, the surface choice has a meaningful impact on the day-to-day experience — it’s worth taking the time to get it right.
SnapSports Modular Tiles
Interlocking sport tiles engineered for performance and durability across multiple sports. At large court dimensions, SnapSports tiles deliver excellent consistency across the entire playing surface, with no dead spots or variation from one end to the other. Available in multiple performance tiers and colour combinations. Also the more flexible option if your sports mix is likely to change over time.
Acrylic Court Surface
A smooth, liquid-applied coating system bonded directly to your concrete base. At larger dimensions, acrylic delivers a clean, seamless finish with no tile edges or seams — a look that suits families who want a polished, professional aesthetic. Excellent for multi-sport line configurations and natural ice rink use in winter.

Common Questions
Large Courts, Answered
Can I fit a full-court basketball setup at this size?
A regulation NBA full court is 50′ x 94′ — well beyond this size range. But a smaller full-court basketball setup with goals at both ends is very achievable in the 2,000–3,000 sq ft range, particularly for recreational and family play. Most families find this more than enough for the kind of basketball they actually want to play. If you need a regulation-size court, that’s where Full Size Courts come in.
Can I fit tennis on a large court?
A regulation tennis court is 60′ x 120′, which puts it beyond the large court size range. If tennis is the priority, you’ll want to look at Full Size Courts. That said, some families incorporate a modified mini-tennis setup for recreational play — mention it during your consultation and we’ll tell you what’s realistic for your property.
How many sports can realistically fit on one large court?
Most large court clients end up with three to four sports on a single surface — typically a combination of basketball, pickleball, volleyball, and hockey. The key is smart line layout and good colour separation so each sport’s lines are easy to read during play. Our design team handles this and will show you a layout plan before anything gets built.
Is a large court worth the step up from medium?
It depends entirely on how you’ll use it. If multi-sport is genuinely important — not just nice to have — or if a real skating rink is part of the vision, the step up to a large court is usually worth it. If basketball is the main event and pickleball is an occasional bonus, a medium court will serve you well at a lower price point. Our team will give you an honest answer during the consultation.
How long does installation take?
Most large court installations are completed in three to four days once the concrete base is ready. From the time you sign off on your project, TSS typically has clients playing on their new court within four to six weeks, depending on scheduling and season.
Can I add lighting later?
Yes, though it’s more cost-effective to include lighting conduit in the concrete pour from the start. If you think lighting might be on the wish list down the road, mention it early and we’ll build in the infrastructure so adding it later is straightforward.
