Serious Courts for Serious Performance

A Real Court. A Real Backyard. No Compromises.

Small courts under 1,000 sq ft prove you don’t need a massive property to have a premium backyard court. We’ve built hundreds of them across Canada, and every one gets the same attention as the biggest installation we’ve ever done.

About Small Courts

Big Fun in a Smaller Footprint

A small backyard court is the most popular starting point for urban and suburban families who want a real play space without needing an acre to do it. Under 1,000 sq ft, these courts are primarily built for basketball, though many also include space for ball hockey practice.

If your priority is pickleball, badminton, or volleyball, you’ll want to look at our Medium Courts — those sports need a bit more room to play properly. But if basketball is the game and the backyard is tight, a small court can absolutely deliver the experience your family is looking for.

Every small court we build includes a proper concrete base, premium sport surface, and whatever accessories make the space yours — hoops, containment netting, custom logos, lighting, and more.

Typical size range: Up to 1,000 sq ft Typical budget range: $20,000–$45,000+

Budget includes the concrete base and may vary based on location, complexity, and accessories chosen.

Is This the Right Fit?

Small Courts Work Best When...

  • Your backyard has limited space but you want a premium court, not a compromise
  • Basketball is your primary sport
  • You want a space for kids to shoot around, practise drills, or play one-on-one
  • You’re in an urban or suburban neighbourhood with a smaller lot
  • Ball hockey practice is on the wish list alongside basketball
  • You want something that looks great and holds up through Canadian winters

If pickleball, badminton, volleyball, or a full 3-point line are important to you, a Medium Court is likely the better fit.

Common Questions

Small Courts, Answered

What's the smallest court TSS will build?

We’ve built courts as compact as 15′ x 37′ in tight urban backyards. As long as there’s enough space for a safe, playable surface, we can work with it. Our team will assess your property during the consultation and let you know exactly what’s possible.

A standard pickleball court measures 20′ x 44′, so most small courts don’t have quite enough room for a full pickleball setup. If pickleball is important to you, a Medium Court is the right starting point. That said, every backyard is different — bring it up during your consultation and we’ll tell you what’s realistic for your specific space.

Both perform well for basketball. SnapSports modular tiles offer excellent shock absorption and ball response, which many players prefer for heavy use and joint comfort. Acrylic delivers a smooth, traditional court feel that’s familiar to players who’ve grown up on outdoor hardcourts. Our team will walk you through both options during your consultation so you can make the right call for your family.

The typical budget range of $20,000–$45,000+ includes the concrete base and the playing surface. Basketball systems, containment netting, lighting, and custom logos are available as add-ons and will be factored into your final project estimate. We’ll walk you through all the options so there are no surprises.

Absolutely. Every TSS court is built specifically for Canadian climate conditions. SnapSports tiles accommodate natural freeze-thaw expansion and contraction, and acrylic surfaces installed on a properly prepared base hold up excellently through the winter months. You won’t need to cover or remove the court — just wait for spring and play.

Most small court installations are completed in one to two days once the concrete base is ready. From the time you sign off on your project, TSS typically has clients playing on their new court within four weeks.
